At 7 a.m. Wednesday there was .51 precipitation (6” of snow). It continued to snow much of Wednesday. There were a number of accidents. As far as we know there were no serious injuries, but plenty of fender benders. The children seemed to be enjoying the snow as those who had sleds were trying them out and those who didn’t have sleds tried out anything that would slide. The Associated Press named John McEnroe as the male Athlete of the Year. Wednesday’s Spartanburg Herald had a picture of Ann Johnson and Ruth Davis, both of Landrum High School. Ruth, 18, is the first exchange student in School District 1 and Ann, 17, is the first District I student to become an exchange student. Ruth is from Australia and Ann is going to Australia. Ann, who is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Robert L. Johnson, is going to Narromine, Australia. Ruth is living with Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Lee and family. Most of the national news has Continued On Back Page Rescheduled The Polk County Democratic Executive and Precinct meeting scheduled for tonight (Thursday) has been rescheduled for February. Close Call Mrs. Mabel Camp had a close call Tuesday about 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Camp, who drives a taxi, was coming down Chestnut Street (Oak Hall Hill) and her automobile wouldn’t stop or turn on the ice and snow. She jumped out of the car before it hit the rear end of a car operated by Marvin Page, jumped the curb, went into the Mary Reese Garden and ended up on the railroad track. Mrs. Camp was bruised but had no serious injury. Postponed The Tryon Film Club movie scheduled to be shown Wednesday has been re scheduled for Friday, Jan. 15th at 8 p.m. Post Office Bids Sought The U. S. Postal Service is asking for construction bids as well as the offer of a suitable site for the new main post office building in Landrum, Postmaster Charles B. Winkler says. Under the Postal Service open- advertising program for construction of leased facilities, prospective bidders are asked to offer site and construction bids as a single package. No public bid opening is held. Bid packages are to be submitted no later than Feb. 10 to Pat Ferrari, realty management and acquisition specialist, Field Real Estate and Buildings Office, U. S. Postal Service, P. 0. box 22725, Tampa, Fla., 33622. The site should have 38,500 square feet of land or a lot with dimensions of 175 feet by 220 feet. The preferred location is in an area bounded on the north by North Valley Road, Lee Street, and Bomar Street; on the east by Crawford and Thompson; on the south by W. Rutherford Street and Randolph; and on the west by Coleman and Greenwood. The proposed new post office building will have 3,360 square feet of interior floor space.
